Understanding the Cost of Home Care

Planning care for yourself or a loved one can raise many questions about cost. At Warner Homecare, we believe families should have clear, honest information so they can make the best decisions about care and support.

The cost of home care varies depending on the level of support required, the number of hours of care needed, and the type of services provided. Some people may only need a few hours of help each week, while others may require more regular or full-time support.

Flexibility

Our services are flexible, which means care can be tailored to suit both your needs and your budget. We work with families to design personalised care plans that provide the right level of support while remaining affordable.

Cost May Vary

Costs may include services such as:

  • Personal care and daily living support

  • Medication reminders

  • Companionship and social support

  • Help around the home

  • Specialist care for complex needs

Many families are also eligible for financial support, funding, or insurance coverage that can help reduce the cost of care. Our team can guide you through the available options and help you understand what support you may qualify for.

If you would like to discuss care costs or explore funding options, our team is here to help.

Government Funding Options

Many individuals in the UK may be eligible for government-funded support to help cover the cost of home care. Funding is usually arranged through your local authority after a care needs and financial assessment.

If you or a loved one are struggling with daily tasks due to age, illness, or disability, you may qualify for support that can help pay for part or all of your care.

Local Authority Funding

Your local council can arrange support for people who meet the eligibility criteria under the Care Act 2014. This typically involves two assessments:

Care Needs Assessment
A social worker will assess your daily living needs and determine whether you qualify for support.

Financial Assessment (Means Test)
The council will review your income and savings to determine how much you may need to contribute towards your care.

If eligible, the council may provide funding through:

  • Direct payments, allowing you to choose your own care provider

  • Council-arranged care services

  • Personal care budgets to manage your support needs

Attendance Allowance

Attendance Allowance is a non-means-tested benefit for people over the State Pension age who need help with personal care due to illness or disability.

This benefit can help cover the cost of additional support at home and can be used towards home care services.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

For individuals under State Pension age who live with a long-term health condition or disability, Personal Independence Payment (PIP) may provide financial support to help with daily living or mobility needs.

Our Support

Understanding funding can feel overwhelming, especially when you're trying to arrange care for someone you love. Our team is happy to guide families through the process, explain available options, and help you access the support you may be entitled to.

Insurance Coverage

Some individuals may have insurance policies that help contribute toward the cost of home care services. While this is less common than government funding, certain policies can provide valuable financial support when care is needed.

Understanding what your policy covers can help you plan for care with greater confidence.

Long-Term Care Insurance

Long-term care insurance policies are designed to help cover the cost of ongoing care, including support provided in the home. Depending on the policy, this may include assistance with:

  • Personal care

  • Daily living activities

  • Ongoing support for long-term health conditions

Each policy varies, so it is important to review the terms or speak with your insurance provider to understand what services are covered.

Life Insurance Policies

Some life insurance policies allow early access to funds if the policyholder develops a serious illness or requires long-term care. This may help contribute towards home care services when support becomes necessary.

Private Health Insurance

Certain private health insurance policies may offer limited support services, such as short-term home care following hospital discharge or recovery from illness or surgery.

However, most standard health insurance policies in the UK do not fully cover ongoing domiciliary care, so it is important to confirm the details directly with your provider.

Our Support

If you believe you may have an insurance policy that could help fund care, our team can help you understand what information your provider may need and guide you through the process of arranging support at home.
